This week, Thursday, March 15 we will be have a planning meeting for Spring Awakening at 428 E. 10th St at 7pm. Please join us and help make this a great event!!
Spring Awakening is happening on Earth Day, Sunday, April 22 as we parade and party to welcome the Spring and celebrate the opening of our community gardens!
We will be having music and dance, toy making and costumes for kids, soap making, seed swapping, canning and wellness workshops!

OCTOBER is a TEN
Yo Lungsters,
I see October growing, glowing in your eyes all golden with orange flecks. You’re smiling, then hiding a small yawn, as the sunlight kisses goodbye.
WAKE UP–Too much good stuff to do!
LUNGS Meeting this Saturday, OCTOBER 7 at 11am, at DeColores Garden 311 E.8th St Btwn Aves B & C. RAIN or Shine–if it’s raining we will meet at 428 E.10St btwn C & D. We need to talk about garden membership and how to improve it, some gardens are in need of help. In 2018 our licenses with GreenThumb are up for renewal, they are going to be very strict with gardens maintaining open hours. We need to work on a neighborhood wide membership plan.
We will also be discussing the LUNGS FEST, lessons learned and improvements needed.
AND ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON 6B Garden’s Amazing Harvest Festival 2-7pm, Music, Food, Prizes, Great FUN!
The LUNGS CSA has moved this to DeColores Garden at 311 E.8th St between Aves B & C. Pickup is still Sundays between 1-3pm. The CSA will be in DeColores for the entire month of October. Still $10 for a bag of fresh goodies.
This coming THURSDAY, Mayor DeBlasio is holding a Town Hall Meeting with Council Member Mendez and BP Brewer and Brian Kavanagh on Thursday, October 12th, at 7 pm. The town hall will be held at PS 188- The Island School, 442 East Houston Street, New York, NY, 10002. The event is open to all constituents of Council District 2 and it is an opportunity to ask the Mayor and Commissioners and senior officials from all City agencies questions on any topic.

Also FYI GOOD NEWS –the Governor’s Office of Sandy Recovery has finally signed off on the Second Phase of the Gardens Rising Project, better late than never. It is too late in this year to actually do any green Infrastructure work in our gardens but we need to start now planning in earnest for 2018. So keep your eyes peeled for notices of neighborhood meeting we will be having this Fall.

Downbeat Magazine “Rising Flute Star,” Sylvain Leroux is a notable player on New York City’s African and improvised music scene, his group “Source” hosted the African Jazz Friday at the Zinc Bar for twelve years. His 2012 CD, titled “Quatuor Creole,” was hailed by critics as “perfect contemporary music release.” He is the inventor of the (patented) chromatic tambin, a new take on a traditional instrument. Since 2013, he has been conducting a successful music literacy pilot program based on his invention in Guinea, West Africa.
He will be performing in duet with Andy Algire, virtuoso percussionist and veteran of many African music groups and performances in the United States.

A site-specific pop up exhibit of vivid night photographs by George Hirose of NYC community gardens installed all throughout a Lower East Side community garden… Please come and explore!
“Help Ourselves” is a youth empowerment group involved with creative activism in diverse communities. In collaboration with Children’s Magical Garden, they will be inviting local Artists to create spontaneous works of art alongside audience participants and guests!
